This App is the second one of the series “Arqueológicas” (Archaeologics) and it enhances the content of the paper-published book “Arqueológicas. Hacia una arqueología aplicada” by PhD. David Barreiro Martínez, senior researcher at the Institute of Heritage Sciences (Incipit) in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

This book is a summary of a proposal with a radical principle: an archaeology that only target the generation of historical knowledge and does not address how it is produced, managed and socialized archaeological heritage is an insufficient archaeology. And aims to provide some concrete ideas for building an applied archaeology by a comprehensive conception of the discipline, which aims to combine the generation of knowledge with its application to the solution of practical problems arising in the context of modernization, without losing the critical essence of the discipline.

It is divided into four parts: the first one is an analysis of the structure of the profession today in Spain, in order to sharpen the approaches proposed below. The second part is a historical and philosophical contextualization. In the third section the concept of sustainable development as a framework suitable for archaeology is analyzed. And in the fourth part we venture a hypothetical structure for a research program in applied archaeology.

This book will be useful for professionals and students of archaeology and cultural heritage management, but also for the general public interested in issues of archaeology, cultural heritage, philosophy of science and technology, and sustainable development.

The application is based on the reading system introduced in “Arqueológicas: La razón perdida” by PhD. Felipe Criado-Boado, chief of the same Institute that the author belongs to. This system allows the user to navigate through specific concepts selected by the writer, and know the relationships between each other.
